         Recount About Niva from Duffy Assembly

On Monday we had Duffy Role Model Assembly. Our role model was Niva. She came to tell us about how reading is important.  

Niva struggled to work on ready when she was still in school, she told us a catchphrase it goes it cool to read and it cool to achieve. She never gave up on ready she tried her best when she reads, shoe goes to the library with her symbols everyday. Now she is good a read because she never gave up.

Niva has been in the radio industry for 30 year, She was raised up in Invercargill by her samoan parents, she has been working in the radio around Samoa and New Zealand. The 40 year old is currently employed as the afternoon newsleader on newstalk ZB based in Auckland.   

Niva loves to talk and talk, she loves to read. Niva read us a story called Kisses Kisses. It was fun because she read it was excitement and it was funny.  

Apart from chatting non stop, Niva's other hobby is running marathons. To date, she has run six marathons including in New York, Queenstown, Paris and Beirut. Niva Retimanu is a great and happy role model.

Christchurch In Russell

Christchurch In Russell

On Tuesday 22 August  2017,  the year 7 and 8 student from Glenbrae School visited  Christchurch in Russell as part as our school camp. We went there to learn about the Maori, Tamati Waka Nene, and the British church. This played an important part   

When we arrived in russell we had to go into the Church we learnt about the Christchurch, when we looked at the church there are still bullet holes in the church that the Maori shot. In front of the church it has Tamati Waka Nene grave stone. And we saw Miss Elia our  principal Great great great grandfather’s grave and his name was William Cook.

Once we left the Christchurch we went to the toilet because some people wanted to go toilet. When we finished we had to talk about what we learned in there.

As soon as we finished we had to go back to our campsite to have Morning Tea.  

It was fun having to see the most oldest house in New Zealand, And history about the church and Tamati Wakanene.

How to Cook French Toast

WALT:Use Time Words in our Writing.

The things that are highlighted in Yellow  are the time words.

French Toast

1.Bread

2.Egg

3.¼ cup (60ml) milk

4.Frying pan

5.Spoon

6.Pepper

7.Oil

9.Salt

10.Fork

                                                               Steps

1.First whisk the eggs in a large bowl.

2.When stirring the eggs in the bowl, sprinkle some pepper and salt in the mixture.

3.Preheat a non-stick frypan at medium-high heat.

4.Drizzle some oil in the pan.

5.Then dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture and then turn until both sides are covered

6. Then put the slice of bread into the frypan.

7. Cook for 2-3 minutes each side until golden and brownish.

8. Then take it out of the pan using a fork

9. Place on a plate and enjoy.

On Monday morning Room 7 went the the Glenbrae School court to play netball. First we had to get into a circle for stretches and after stretches . Then Miss Tofa had to teach us some netball skulls.Next Miss Tofa but us into 2 groups and Miss Ogram our student teacher that just came today had to teach us other netball skulls.Finally Miss Tofa Told everyone to come to her because the other classes were coming.

Visit Glenbrae School

Visiting Glenbrae Kids

On 29 March 2017 Room 7 went to visit Glenbrae Kids. When we walk there because it was not fare from our School. Once we got there, we  had to sing a song called Toro Mai.

After we sang our song we had to find our buddy, and then we had to play with our Buddies.  I had 2 Buddies because there were best friends and there were funny because they kept on telling jokes.

But then we had to leave they were sad and somewhere crying because they wanted to have more fun. But we told them We will come back.

Duffy Role Model Assembly

On Thursday Morning there was a Duffy Assembly in the Glenbrae School Hall.  Our Role model was Myron Simpson.

Myron  is 25 years old. In 2007,  he won the silver medal in 2007 Junior World Championship in Mexico. He started riding bikes when he was 3 years old. He wanted to ride bikes because his 2 brothers were also BMX bikers so he wanted to be like them.

He loves to cook and eat at home. His favorite food is pizza. His favourite country visited is  Italy because he likes to eat pizza. He liked the beaches in Italy.

Junior worriors

On Thursday room 9 went up the field to play rugby. There were 5 team’s there was Bulldogs,Junior Warriors,Warriors,Rabbitohs,Broncos,.

First game was Broncos vs Bulldogs and its was a tie it was a close game.Then it was Rabbitohs vs Warriors. and the Rabbitohs had 1 and the Warriors had 2 and the winners was  Warriors.

The next game was the Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs and i was in Bulldogs team. I had a runaway and someone tackled me. We won and the Bulldog’s point was 2 and Rabbitohs points was 1.

Eventually the teams that was in the finals was Junior Warriors vs Bulldogs. Bulldogs lost by 1 point and  the team that won was Junior Warriors.

Science at Tamaki

On Tuesday 4 August 2015 some students from Glenbrae School

gathered at the hall and went to Tamaki College.

We went there to learn what is science and how to do science.

On Science we need to remember safety first. You need safety glasses and gloves so we don’t get hurt. To be good at science, you need to know your maths,reading,writing.  If you don’t, you will not know what to do (like how to make robots or mix chemicals).

When we arrived at Tamaki we saw Mr Malhotra. He introduced himself and showed us some robots.

First we had to look through microscope and we looked at little animals. Each group had a turn controlling the robot .

Next we made hot hokey pokey. Here are the                                         recipes:Golden syrup,Saucepan,Sugar,Baking soda.

That’s the things you need to use to make hokey pokey.

After that the science teacher gave us some hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide. It was called elephant toothpaste. First we put food coloring in, then handwash, then hydrogen peroxide. When you put the peroxide into the cane it will pop up like a volcano eruption.

When we finished that science project we had 15 minutes left and on that 15m Mr Malhotra showed us what their students made in science - a helicopter.

Lastly we had to leave the science lab.

Ending: When we got to Tamaki i was so excited and happy and i enjoyed that science session with Mr Malhotra when we saw little animal bodies and new thing’s.

Asthma Show

Asthma Show

On Tuesday 28th of May 2015 Glenbrae school student went down to the hall to learn about Assma. There was a man who was dressed up in a blue tuxedos. he looked handsome he was talking to as about asthma his name was called Chris.

Next he showed us something we should be using when we have assma it was called a inhaler Chris said that if someone have asthma. When he just finished he said if he could borrow some student to go help out to hold the staff in front of the school the things that what the people that have asthma have to stay away from smoke,animal fur,dust mites,cold air,virus,flower pollen.

Then Chris said to call out the Sailor the fish. Sailor the fish is Chris best friend he told us how to use a inhaler first you put it in you mouth then you press the thing on the top next step you have to breath 6 time  then do it again if you get up to  you press the thing on top then you breath two times that when you stop but make sure you do it every day.

Finally the Sailor the fish  had to go then he said that the end of the show then everyone had to go back to class. It was very exciting when i got there and i learnt allot of thing about asthma.      

Saturday

At Saturday the 23 may 2015.I woke up and i had to brush my teeth then eat breakfast when i had breakfast i just notice that i had to go to my rugby game.First i had to but  my clothes on and then i had to go get my mouth garde i came with my parents.

Next we went to drop off my sisters to netball she was playing at ami courts.Then after we drop them off we went to my game my game was at cornwall park at one tree hill.

Then when we arrived we had to train to get ready to play.I was so happy because i was playing full field i play forward.The rules to the game is that we are not allowed to height tackle and not shoulder charge not allowed to offside and talking back to the referee then at 10.45 we played.

Finally the game was over at  11.30 it was very exciting we won 43 to 5

Motat trip

                                                                                                                                                                       On a hot Wednesday  Morning the student from Room 10,7,9 went to visit MOTAT. We went by bus we went to MOTAT to learn about world war 1 and world war 2.

When we arrived we had morning tea then the person who was telling us the rules for motat her name was called  katherine.

Then when we finished having morning tea we went to the tram ride.

After the tram ride we had to go back to the place we were eating morning tea we went to this room to learn about world war 1. katherine told us all the things that what army  was used in war.

Then we had to go lunch time. After lunch time we went around  motat we my favorite place was the mirror maze.

I learnt that Pigeons was used to send messages to other countries.

it was very excited and fantastic.

  

   

Basketball Coaching

On Tuesday 19 May 2015 Room 9 student went to the hall to do basketball coaching.Then we had a new coach there names was Miya and Chanelle Mya introduce herself.Then Chanelle said to get a ball then put it on top of your head.

Then she gave us some tips like bouncing the ball on the ground.Then she said to bounce the ball around your legs

Next we played ball rush.Two student had to be in the middle then when the student say ball  rush we all have to run and they try catching us.

Finally Basketball coaching was finished when i got there i felt  very exciting then when we played ball rush i was very excited.
