Day 3 Wild eyes

                                                           Day 3 Wild eyes
You have now woken up after a long, comfortable sleep at your hotel in Dargaville. You’re ready for another day of adventuring! Today, you will drive around the North island and be introduced to amazing animals that live here in New Zealand. Some are native and some are non-native. Native animals are animals that normally live in New Zealand. Non-native animals are animals that were brought into New Zealand from another country. Examples of native New Zealand animals are the kakapo, the kiwi, the kea parrot, the yellow eyed penguin and the pekapeka bat.

Activity 1: Curious Kiwi, a native New Zealand bird, is your tour guide for today. He is going to take you to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park where many of his aunties and uncles currently live. The bird park is a five hour drive from Dargaville so you hit the road right after breakfast and arrive in Otorohanga at lunch time. As you walk through the birdhouse you learn about the work being done to conserve and protect the native birds of New Zealand. You decide to help out by ‘adopting’ a native animal. Visit the Adopt a Critter page’ on the Otorohanga bird house website to choose one animal to adopt. On your blog, tell us the name of the animal that you chose and a little bit about them. What kind of animal are they? What do they eat? Where do they normally live? You can use Google to help you with your research.

As soon as Curious Kiwi woke up. I went to a restaurant called McDonald, I brought a  Big Mac and a soda, I went to pick up Wiki to come. When I arrived at Taniwha were Wiki stays, I asked him if he would come with me to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House Native Bird Park, the Native Bird Park is settled in Dargaville were my aunts and uncle live. He said shore it will loads of fun, He ran back inside to get is shoes and jacket because it was cold, Then we were off.
When we were driving Curious was hungry because it is a long drive because from Dargaville the bird park is 5 hours drive. Were close but Curious was hungry he wanted to eat because he didn't want to spend money buy food there because it cost a lot of money.

Once we got there we had to find a parking because it was full, Finally we found a parking, when we were  going to the counter to get our ticket it was a massive long line,  I told Wiki “no wonder why the parking was fool”, Wiki laughed and said “ that why we come earlier. Not long after the qeu went  shorter and shorter, when it came to our turn we bought our ticket and we were in.

At last we were in side once we walk inside it felt like a Zoo but it was a zoo that was full of Birds, I  went to look at the the map and there was someone that works there, He ask me if he would be our tour guide, then we said yes. Then he said “now to start of the day in Otorohanga Kiwi House Native Bird Park first we're going to go to the Non Native birds and and then i’ll take use to the Native birds” Then Curious ask wait before we ask question can you please tell us what your” the tour guard pointed to his badge where it said his name, his name was Churry, Then Wiki asked Churry what does Non Native bird and Native bird mean, he said “ Non Native animals are animals that was brought into New Zealand from another country, And Native animals are animals that normally live here”, Once Churry finished Curious said let’s go learn about these birds. First Churry took us to a animals called Kakapo he told us that a kakapo is green and has a beak like all bird have duhh, he says that it can lass upto 95 years, it is 2-4 kg and Churry said did you know that a wild kakapo are known to approach, climb  on and preen people. A kakapo is also known called owl parrot.

Right after he took us to the kakapo he took us to the Moa, Churry said that the Moa was 2 largest species they were big. The Moa got extinct within one hundred year, Then Wiki said “isn't that when dinosaurs were still alive? then churry said “yea your right”, Then Churry said “did you know that it had a large body short thick legs a long neck a small head a large beak.

Then Churry said now let go to the Non Animals. First he took us to a bird called Yellowhammer, he says that it lifespan can lass upto 9 years, it yellow, the size of the bird is 16cm and 27g. Churry says that it came into New Zealand between 1862 and the early 1870s and now found throughout the country in farmlands. As the name suggests, the adult male has a bright yellow head.

Then Churry said I think use have 1 more hour to leave because the park is going to close. Then Churry showed them the last Non animal churry took him to a bird called Spotted Dove. He says that The Spotted Dove was introduced to New Zealand as a cage bird but is now found in well treed suburbs, city parks and rural areas of Auckland, South Auckland, Te Puke and Opotiki, The bird has a grey head tinged pink and the back, wings and rump are mottled brown. The nape and back of the neck is black with white spots. The long tail has darker outer feathers . The life span is unknown but the size is 30cm and 130g.
Then Churry said I think it know time to leave hope you enjoyed it and hoped yous learnt something from it, Once Curious and Wiki hoped in the car and Wiki said Wow that was so interesting, then Curious said my favorite bird was the Kakapo because it had lots of information and fast, then Wiki said my favorite bird was the Moa because it was one of the biggest animals and it died when dinosaurs died. Once we got home we made some dinner and we were off to sleep.

Hi Inoke I am absolutely having fun reading your journey and I love how you are writing this as a recount. You are a champ. Looks like you and Churry are having a really good and busy time. I am quite interested in the Spotted dove. I will keep an eye out on the birds I feed outside my home if I spot one someday. Question for you Inoke. I see you have been learning about the moa. In which of class novels did we about the moa? Keep up the good work.
